Job Purpose

The Academic Coordinator starting August 2026 will be responsible for supporting the academic quality and operational delivery of the British curriculum across the school, with a particular focus on curriculum continuity, assessment coordination, and IGCSE examination administration.

The role requires strong knowledge of the English National Curriculum, curriculum transitions across key stages, and experience coordinating internal and external examinations within a British international school environment.

The Academic Coordinator works closely with the Senior Leadership Team, Heads of Department, teachers, parents, and examination boards to ensure high academic standards, effective curriculum implementation, and smooth examination processes.

Key Responsibilities:

Curriculum Coordination & Academic Oversight

• Support the implementation and monitoring of the British Curriculum across relevant key stages.

• Ensure curriculum continuity and smooth transitions between year groups and key stages.

• Coordinate curriculum mapping, planning, and progression to ensure alignment with UK standards.

• Work closely with SLT to monitor curriculum coverage, assessment practices, and academic consistency.

• Support the school improvement agenda through academic tracking and curriculum review.

• Assist in standardisation and moderation processes to maintain consistency in teaching and assessment.

• Monitor student academic progress and support intervention planning where needed.

IGCSE & Examination Coordination:

• Coordinate all aspects of IGCSE examinations in line with all examination board regulations.

• Act as the main point of contact for examination entries, timetables, invigilation, coursework deadlines, and examination logistics.

• Coordinate mock examinations and internal assessment schedules.

• Manage communication with students, parents, staff, and examination boards regarding examination procedures and timelines.

• Maintain accurate examination records and candidate documentation.

• Prepare examination reports and analyse examination outcomes to support academic improvement planning.

Academic Administration:

• Support the preparation of academic calendars, assessment schedules, and reporting timelines.

• Coordinate report writing processes and quality assurance checks.

• Assist with timetabling and curriculum allocation where required.

• Support school inspections, accreditation processes, and academic requirements.

• Ensure academic policies and procedures are implemented consistently.

Staff Support & Collaboration

• Provide guidance and support to teaching staff regarding curriculum expectations and assessment procedures.

• Assist in onboarding new teachers regarding curriculum systems, assessment frameworks, and examination procedures.

• Work collaboratively with SLT and middle leaders to maintain high academic standards.

• Support professional development initiatives related to curriculum and assessment.

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Education or relevant subject area.

• UK-recognised teaching qualification (PGCE/QTS or equivalent).

• Previous teaching experience within a British Curriculum school.

• Previous management and/or academic leadership experience.

• Experience coordinating IGCSE examinations and liaising with examination boards to ensure the smooth administration and compliance of all examination processes.

• Strong understanding of the English National Curriculum and curriculum progression.

• Experience handling curriculum transitions across key stages.

• Strong organisational and administrative skills.

Desirable

• Previous experience in a BSME/BSO accredited school.

• Experience with school inspections or accreditation processes.
