Opportunity Overview

Early-stage analytics-focused data startup building a lean data platform for the gambling and betting space. This role supports platform improvements and reporting front ends, working closely with a small UK-based R&D team and an offshore BAU setup.

Role Description

As a Junior Data Developer, you’ll optimise existing Python and SQL code and build scripts that improve reporting front ends. You’ll work across the platform rather than on client-specific tickets, owning tasks end-to-end with minimal direction. This is a high-ownership startup environment where proactive problem-spotting matters as much as delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Code optimisation – Improve and refactor the existing codebase during the initial platform phase.
• Python scripting – Build scripts that strengthen and automate reporting front ends.
• Platform ownership – Deliver work across the core platform, not bespoke client projects.
• End-to-end delivery – Take tasks from vague brief to completion with minimal direction.
• Proactive issue flagging – Surface risks and gaps early, not just work within scope.

Minimum Qualifications

• Python proficiency – Read and write Python independently; fundamentals won’t be taught.
• SQL competence – Write queries and work comfortably with data in SQL.
• Self-starter mindset – Work without relying on detailed tickets or constant direction.
• AI-enabled workflow – Comfortable using tools like Claude and ChatGPT day-to-day.
• Sector comfort – Willing to work with gambling sector clients and related analytics.

Bonus Qualifications

• Airflow exposure – Prior experience with Airflow is helpful but not required.
• Startup background – Experience in a US/UK startup environment is a plus.
• Builder mindset – Has built practical solutions using LLM tools or side projects.
